# Staking Types

Every staking pool on DEXRise runs on one of two contract types: **Flexible** or **Locked**. Both types earn rewards the same way — [APR-based, simple interest](/dexrise-documentation/staking/apr-mechanics.md) — but they treat the deposit differently.

## Flexible Staking

A **flexible-term contract** with no time commitment:

* You can withdraw your **deposit plus your rewards at any time**.
* There are **no restrictions** on when or how often you exit.

Flexible staking keeps your capital fully liquid — you decide how long to stay in the pool, from minutes to months.

## Locked Staking

A **fixed-term contract** that commits the deposit for the full staking period:

* The **deposit cannot be withdrawn** until the staking term has completely ended.
* **Rewards are treated separately**: they remain **claimable at any time**, or can be **re-deposited** into the pool if you prefer to keep building your position.

Locked staking suits participants who are confident in their position for the pool's full duration and do not need to touch the deposit before the term ends.

## Side-by-side comparison

|                       | **Flexible**                              | **Locked**                                    |
| --------------------- | ----------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------- |
| **Contract term** | Flexible — exit anytime | Fixed — runs to the end of the staking period |
| **Deposit access** | Withdraw deposit anytime, no restrictions | Withdrawable only after the full term ends |
| **Reward access** | Claim anytime | Claim anytime |
| **Redeposit rewards** | Yes                                       | Yes                                           |
| **Best suited for** | Keeping capital liquid | Committing a position for the full term |

{% hint style="info" %}
In both contract types, **rewards are always claimable at any time**. The only difference is when the deposit itself can leave the pool: immediately in Flexible, and after the full term in Locked.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
All stake, withdraw and claim operations execute **directly on-chain** with transparency and security — in both contract types.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://dexrise.gitbook.io/dexrise-documentation/staking/staking-types.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
